Biography of Michael G. Halvorson

Michael G. Halvorson was born in 1974 in Fargo, North Dakota.  He graduated from Fargo South High in 1993 and went to Concordia in Moorhead for his undergraduate studies.  At Concordia, Mike was an all conference running back for the Cobbers,  where he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology in 1997.  Mike went on to work as a counselor working with troubled youth at Catholic Charities Treatment Center in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.  In 1998, Mike decided to go to Hamline Law School in St. Paul to obtain his juris doctorate.  While in law school, Mike had the opportunity to clerk for the Dakota County Public Defender’s Office, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (Gang Task Force Unit) and a private construction litigation firm.  In 2001, Mike obtained his juris doctorate from Hamline Law School and passed the bar exam later that year.   He was admitted to the Minnesota State and Federal Bars in 2001 and began practicing as an attorney with the private construction litigation firm where he had been a clerk.  In 2002, Mike joined Johnson, Larson, Peterson & Matt, P.A.  In 2008, he was elected shareholder

Through his years of practice, Mike has gained valuable experience representing both individuals and business entities in the following areas:

  • Personal Injury (Plaintiff)

  • Criminal Law – DUI/DWI
  • Construction Law

Mike has found great satisfaction in his diverse practice.  Mike has worked in house with several major general contractors and subcontractors to develop contracts and document protocol and lien procedures.  Mike’s goal in representing business clients is to not only assure successful dispute resolution, but to create an atmosphere where disputes are avoided before they occur.  Mike enjoys the one-on-one assistance he is able to give individual clients dealing with the difficulties of divorce and personal injury.  He prides himself in educating and advising his clients in order to help them make clear, rational decisions, when faced with such sensitive and life changing issues such as divorce and injury.  Mike is also a qualified neutral under rule 114 which allows him to mediate various family law disputes.

Mike is a member of the Tenth District Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Rotary and the Wright County Volunteer Legal Clinic Program. 
 
In his free time, Mike enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.
